Hello to you! I hope you are having a fantastic day and looking forward to my latest find!
I am going to cut right to the chase today – I have a great Spanish red blend for your to discover and enjoy…
Another solid, value wine – Piqueras Castillo De Almansa’s ‘Almansa Reserva’ 2011 is a traditional Spanish blend of Tempranillo, Monastrell and Garnacha grape varieties. I really like the consistency of this wine. It is not overly complex, but who needs an overly complex wine all the time anyway? Not me.
In the glass, this wine is medium ruby in colour with aromas of vanilla, tobacco, baked plum, fresh strawberries and blackberries. This is a nice, juicy red with a good balance of tannin and acidity. It is 14% abv. but doesn’t feel very heavy in the mouth which makes it exceptionally food friendly to me.
The bright red and black berry fruit flavours along with vanilla and oak notes really lends a lot of charm to this wine. It is only $12.29 at the B.C. Liquor Stores and is another amazing ‘value’ find. It is a perfect Wednesday night wine paired with a meaty pasta sauce or sausages on the BBQ. Truth be told, it is pretty damn good on its own!
I am the first one to admit that my knowledge of Spanish wines is limited so I am thrilled that I have expanded my horizons with this easy drinking red blend.
I have been more in the mood for cozy red wines lately, I know, but next week, you will have a delightful Sauvignon Blanc to read about and maybe a few suggestions for your Valentine.
Have a great week!
