Hello wine fans and happy #wineWednesday!

I am just back from an outstanding week in New York filled with great wine and food, beautiful scenery, learning, laughter and friendship.  I will be posting on my time in the Finger Lakes region soon but first, here is my account of Day 2 in NYC!

I woke to another beautiful, sunshine filled day and Amy and I didn’t have plans until lunchtime.  So, we sipped on coffee and talked like two friends do when they haven’t seen each other for a year.

We headed to Gottino for lunch in the West Village to meet both my publisher and editor at the Alcohol Professor.  Gottino has a nice courtyard outside with seating which is not common in NYC so we nabbed a table and ate some fantastic paninis and talked shop.

Amy had to pack for the Finger Lakes so I explored the Nolita neighbourhood on my own.  I went into a flurry of boutique stores and got a great feeling for the place.  I picked up some shoes (of course) and headed home to change for dinner.

We started out at Chambers Street Wines in Tribeca where they focus on natural and organic wines of the world.  Then, met up with Leeann, aboard the Grand Banks for oysters and outstanding scenery.  It is located on Pier 25 on the Hudson River and is a 142′ schooner that is a sight to behold.  From the deck, while sipping beer, rosé or a gin and tonic, you can see the World Trade Center as well as the Statue of Liberty in the distance.

We then headed to Terroir for a bit more food and some more wine.  I had a glass of Marcel Couturier Mâcon-Loché ‘Les Longues Terres’ 2013 from Burgundy, France. It was 100% Chardonnay and 100% perfect.

I left Leeann and Amy and dashed over to the Chef’s Club to meet Enguerrand Baijot, Champagne Lanson, Director of North America, for an interview and a glass of one of my favourite champagnes.IMG_9911The Chef’s Club is one of the hottest spots in NYC that hosts visiting chefs from Food and Wines ‘Best New Chefs’ list.

Again, another perfect day in NYC.  Next week, I will post on our time in Keuka Lake.

Enjoy the day!
