I recently received an update from Italy about the Savor Quality from Europe campaign, and it got me thinking about something I have always loved about the world of wine: the stories, traditions and people behind every bottle.
The latest initiative shines a spotlight on the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and APOT, two organizations doing important work to protect and celebrate Tuscany’s remarkable wine and olive oil heritage.
From marking the 400th anniversary of Francesco Redi and celebrating the history of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, to preserving generations of olive-growing knowledge, there is so much more to these stories than what ends up in our glasses or on our tables.
What I particularly appreciate is how these organizations are honouring the past while looking to the future. Protecting a region’s identity, supporting its producers and keeping centuries-old traditions alive while navigating the challenges of modern agriculture is no small undertaking.
For me, wine has always been about more than what is in the glass. It is about people, place, history and the generations who have worked the land before us. And that is certainly something worth celebrating.
Cheers to keeping these wonderful traditions alive for generations to come!
