Don and Michael Bartier are two recognizable names in British Columbia’s wine industry. Bartier Bros. Vineyard and Winery is located on the Black Sage bench just south of Oliver, B.C. For years, the brothers have been building a slow and steady reputation for excellence in winemaking.

A partnership between the brothers seemed only natural with Don’s background in finance and Michael’s winemaking skills. Grapes come from one of their two vineyards – the Lone Pine Vineyard in Summerland and the Cerqueira Vineyard located between Oliver and Osoyoos, B.C.

Bartier Bros. Vineyard and Winery Review and Scores

  • Grenache Syrah Mourvèdre 2019 Okanagan Valley, B.C. VQA – an exquisite and refined GSM blend. Notes of violet, white pepper, cassis, blackberry and a hint of smoked meat. Excellent acidity with silky tannins and integrated flavours. 92 Points
  • Merlot 2019 Cerquiera Vineyard Okanagan Valley, B.C. VQA – luscious and rich with notes of chocolate, plum, black cherries. Very well balanced and almost captivating. 91 Points
  • Rosé 2020 Okanagan Valley, B.C. VQA – aromas of cranberry, rhubarb, nutmeg and a dash of cinnamon, this is a blend of Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Merlot. With a hint of fruity sweetness on the palate, I would pair this Rosé with Thai food. 88 Points
  • The Orchard Row 2019 Okanagan Valley, B.C. VQA – an inviting and juicy red wine, bursting with notes of vanilla, cedar, fresh raspberry, tobacco and pencil shavings. It is expressive with a long, tasty finish. Pair with pork tenderloin or portobello mushroom risotto. 90 Points

I have yet to visit Bartier Bros. Vineyard and Winery and am keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to this summer.

Thank you to Bartier Bros. for providing me these samples to review and score.
