To say I am a fan of Stag’s Hollow Winery and their winemaker, Keira LeFranc, is an understatement.

Located in Okanagan Falls, Stag’s Hollow Winery has been making quality wines for 25 years. LeFranc, born and raised in Penticton, became the winemaker at Stag’s Hollow in 2018 after earning her Postgraduate Diploma in Wine Science in New Zealand. I find her wines well-crafted, elegant and fun – all at the same time.

Okanagan Falls received its designation as a sub-geographical indication (sub-GI) in 2018, the second in the province. The more I travel up to the Okanagan Valley, the more I am drawn to visit this special place. You can find out more about what makes Okanagan Falls unique HERE.

Stag’s Hollow Winery Wines and Scores:

  • Syrah 2018 Amalia Vineyard Okanagan Valley, B.C. VQA – Syrah is LeFranc’s favourite grape variety and it shows. This Syrah is elegant and lifted due to its’ co-ferment with small percentages of Viognier. Notes of bramble, violets, cracked black pepper, blackberry and hints of baking spice. 89 Points $28
  • Renaissance Syrah 2018 Amalia Vineyard Okanagan Valley, B.C. VQA – Again, an incredible Syrah loaded with layers of complexity. Flavours of smoked meat, blackberry tart, black current, cocoa, violets and a dash of earth and vanilla. This is one beguiling wine. 92 Points $38
  • Dolcetto Rosato 2020 Shuttleworth Creek Vineyard Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley B.C. VQA – Now, here is a Rosé to search out and enjoy this patio season. This isn’t a typical, light and floral Rosé. No. It is much more than that. Bursting with savoury flavours of fresh rhubarb, blueberry, fresh earth and plum, I could not get enough of this wine. With excellent acidity, it is a perfect pairing for a charcuterie platter and sunshine. 91 Points $24
  • Pinot Gris 2019 Parsons Vineyard Skaha Bench Okanagan Valley, B.C. VQA – This was LeFranc’s first time working with Pinot Gris and it is damn close to perfection. If you are a fan of Pinot Gris – buy this wine. If you are ‘taking a break’ from Pinot Gris – buy this wine. It is voluptuous and impressive with flavours of honeydew and cantaloupe melon, baking spices, honey and ripe pear. 92 Points $26

Excellent wines from start to finish.

Please keep a look out here for my first Wine Soundtrack Canada podcast – Keira LeFranc was brave enough to be my very first interview. We had a great time.

I want to thank Stag’s Hollow Winery for the opportunity to review and score their wines.
