Road 13 Vineyards is ‘all about the dirt’. They believe good wine starts with good terroir, and I agree wholeheartedly.

Based in Oliver, British Columbia on the Golden Mile Bench, Road 13 Vineyards have over 70 KM of vineyard land spread over four different vineyard sites.

Three main types of soil make up their unique terroir:

  • Ponderosa – a grey-brown sandy loam native to Oliver that is high in nutrients.
  • Ratnip – a gravel-like stony soil with low water holding capacity dominant in their Black Sage vineyard.
  • Stemwinder – a mineral-rich soil high in calcium that is free draining.

Road 13 Winery Spring Release Tasting and Scores:

Marsanne 2018 Similkameen Valley, B.C. VQA – bursting with notes of fresh peach, quince and honey, I enjoyed this unctuous wine. A great pairing for lobster or crab. 89 points.

Viognier 2018 Similkameen Valley, B.C. VQA – flavours of apricot, beeswax, and almond on the palate, this is an alluring expression of Viognier. Nicely balanced with a top note of floral on the finish. 88 points.

Riesling 2018 Golden Mile Bench B.C. VQA – a distinct aroma of petrol combined with bright citrus on the nose, the flavours lean toward tropical fruits with a hint of sweetness on the palate. Road 13’s 2018 Riesling is easy drinking and agreeable. 88 points.

Thank you for Road 13 Vineyards for providing these samples to review and score.

Happy Friday!
