Hello wine lovers and happy #wineWednesday.  I hope your week has been exceptional thus far.  My Mom put on a beautiful feast for Family Day and last night I got to reconnect with some great new friends at The Abbey for ‘Cinq a Sept’.  I send a huge ‘shout out’ to Donita Dyer whose brainchild this is…check out Donita’s blog here.

Cheers!

With Valentine’s Day around the corner and all things red, pink and white popping up in storefront windows, my review this week is for Bodegas Caro’s ‘Aruma’ 100% Malbec 2011.  In the glass, it is a glorious deep purple with hints of ruby.  On the nose, it is youthful with a nice bouquet of white and black pepper, black cherry, vanilla, red plum and the tiniest whiff of leather.  On the palate, this is a lush glass of Malbec with soft tannins and rounded rich fruit notes…this is an easy-drinking glass of red.  The flavour profile on the palate leans towards black cherry, blackberry, chocolate and a hint of mocha.

‘Aruma’ is a full-bodied, dry wine with medium acidity.  All in all – a good, all around Malbec.  It is juicy yet soft, so very food friendly for a romantic dinner at home…

I have found Bodegas Caro’s ‘Aruma’ at Everything Wine for $23.99.  This is a nicely crafted Malbec from an Argentinian producer with a great reputation for quality.  Bodegas Caro is a partnership between the Catena family of Argentina and Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) of Bordeaux.  This wine was an unexpected surprise for me and a solid ‘Hell Yes’ in GGG parlance!

I wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day in advance.  What will you be drinking?  For me, it will be vintage Champagne and I will blog about this mystery bottle next week.

Enjoy!
