Happy Friday to you!
The sun is shining in North Vancouver today and that makes me entirely happy.
In our latest ‘Crush on This’ video, the ladies and I sip and savour some pretty outstanding Syrah. While some call this dark-skinned beauty Shiraz, Syrah and Shiraz are, in fact, the same grape. It has a rather interesting origin and is the offspring of two obscure grapes from southeastern France, Dureza and Mondeuse Blanche.
Syrah has two very distinct flavour profiles based on where it is from. Cool climate Syrah wines (think Northern Rhône or Sonoma Coast) lean toward feminine, elegant expressions. Warm climate Syrah wines (think Southern Rhône or Barossa Valley) tend to be bigger bodied and have a more intense flavour profile with dark berry fruit flavours and black pepper notes.
I invite you to watch our latest episode and find out a bit more about this delicious grape variety and some ideas of what to pair with your Syrah for dinner.
Thank you for reading, as always! I hope you have a wonderful day and weekend ahead.
