Hello #winelovers and happy wine Wednesday.
I am up in the Okanagan Valley this week for B.C. VQA panels as well as researching and fact-finding for two upcoming articles for the Alcohol Professor.
I had an outstanding afternoon with the team at Okanagan Crush Pad. I spent two hours walking the vineyard, snapping shots, asking questions, being closer to chickens then I ever thought possible and drinking some terrific wines…more on this soon.
For my wine review today, inspired by a conversation with Lesley Saito, I purchased a bottle of TH Wines ‘By Hand White’ 2013 at the B.C. VQA store in Penticton. I met Tyler Harlton at Top Drop in Vancouver this past month and enjoyed his Viognier and speaking with him about winemaking philosophies. He is based out of Summerland, B.C. and if you haven’t heard of him – you need to…
In the glass, the wine is a nice pale lemon colour with flecks of gold. It is a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc (84% and 16% respectively). On the nose, there is a pleasing aroma creaminess with notes of Bartlett pear, vanilla, a dusting of minerality alongside a whiff of butter. On the palate, the pear stands out – like a pear creme brulé, if there is such a thing, pleasantly fruity, sultry in its mouthfeel and this wine delivers a nice finish. This white blend is noteworthy with good layering.
Personally, I couldn’t believe it was $19.99 – huge value for money. Tastes like $40 not $20 and a wine like this that delivers such value is something I want to share with you. Where can you buy this wine? I have attached a link here.
Indeed a ‘Hell Yes’ wine for me. Another excellent example of where B.C. wine is going. That is it for me this week.
Enjoy!

Hi Christine,
I am really enjoying wine Wednesday.
Thinking about taking the French wine scholar and wondering if I could borrow your books or if you knew anyone who might want to sell them?
Thank you for introducing me to so many great wines!
Cheers, Nancy
Hi. I don’t know anyone who wants to sell their book. The FWS program is fantastic and the book is included in the cost.
