April marks BC Wine Month—a time to raise a glass to the exceptional wines and storied vineyards of British Columbia. Among these, See Ya Later Ranch stands out, perched high atop Hawthorne Mountain near Okanagan Falls, offering breathtaking views and a rich tapestry of history and winemaking excellence.
The ranch’s origins trace back to 1919 when Major Hugh Fraser, a colourful character with a penchant for grand gatherings and canine companions, purchased the property. Legend has it he signed his letters of correspondence with “See ya later” – a playful signature that later lent its name to the winery. Fraser’s legacy lives on, not only in the winery’s name but also in its dog-friendly ethos and the winged canine emblem adorning its labels.
David Saysomsack is the winemaker whose journey spans continents—from Ontario to New Zealand. His philosophy embraces the Okanagan’s diverse terroir, crafting wines that reflect the region’s unique climate and soils. You can read more about David in my latest interview for BCLDB’s TASTE magazine, now available in stores.
As we celebrate BC Wine Month, there’s no better time to explore the offerings of See Ya Later Ranch—a winery where history, passion, and the spirit of the Okanagan converge in every bottle.
